Sunirmal Basu dedicated his entire life in the pursuit of creating literary works for children - in the form of stories, poems, plays and paintings. He was considered a master of rhyme and has a special place in the world of children's books in Bengali. Born in Giridih in 1902 in a renowned family, he spent his childhood there and the ethereal beauty of the landscape around Giridih left a lasting impression that found expression in his poems and stories. He came to Calcutta for his college education but dropped out and joined Mahatma Gandhi's non-cooperation movement. A man of diverse talent - he was an accomplished singer, acted in plays and was deeply interested in creating an authoritative dictionary in Bengali. Sunirmal Basu left us at the young age of fifty-five and left behind a large collection of unfinished stories and work in several areas. Some of his famous literary works include Haoyar-Dola, Chhanabada, Chhander Tung-Tang , Ananda Nadu, Shahure-Mama, Kipte-Thakurda Tuntunir Gan, Gujaber Janma, Bir Shikari, Lalon Fakirer Bhite, Patabahar, Intibintir Asar.
