To grasp the genius of Shibram, we need to read his works repeatedly. His unique style - the mind-splitting metaphors, alliteration, unique use of pun, the play of words and the subtle humour - is simply inimitable. Shibram was born in 1902 in the royal family of Chachal. His deep involvement in the freedom movement ensured his disqualification from the matriculation exams, liberated him from the shackles of 'royal' life and granted him the freedom to transform himself into a "free spirit" and a nonconformist revolutionary. His entry in bengali literature was as a poet - Manush, a collection of poems - was his first published book. He began his professional career as a feature writer in newspapers and magazines, and his unique style made him instantly popular. The delightfully punny stories and novels soon followed and he authored more than 150 books in his writing career, which spanned more than 60 years. His unique abode, the second-floor mess room of a bedsit on Muktaram Babu Street in Kolkata, was a silent witness of his timeless creations, and its walls - with his hand-written calendar and the scrawls - gives us a peek into the mind of the creative genius. He did not care to maintain proper records or preserve manuscripts of most of his works. golpodadu has begun exploring the world of Shibram through the stories of the brothers Harshabardhan and Gobardhan and their sister Bini, where we find him present in many of the stories along with his created characters.
